Always a favourite in the PWR calendar, the midsummer run will take place on Tuesday 20th June with an earlier meet time of 7:30pm. There will be 4 groups organised as follows:
Each group will take a similar route through the picturesque woods and parklands of Petts Wood and will meet for FREE BEER and refreshments before heading back to the Rec for a stretch and to the PWR unofficial clubhouse: ‘One Inn the Wood’ for post-run refuelling. We would love to take some photos, starting with a group photo of you all at the Rec. so if you could dig out your PWR top that would be great. Awards Event On Tuesday 4th July we will be holding our annual awards event. Please note the earlier start time of 7:30pm and a change of venue. Group runs will set-off and return to the Bickley Manor, Thornet Wood Road, BR1 2LW. We would love for you to join us to celebrate some of the running successes of the past year and to find out who’ll be the recipient of this year’s Members’ Award (details of how to vote will be sent out nearer the time). There’s plenty of parking on site and it’s ideally situated - close to Bickley, Petts Wood and Chislehurst stations. The post-run social is for all club members, whether you participated in the Grand Prix or not so don’t forget to bring your beer money! Please contact Nicola Moore if you have any queries. There were some great performances at Paddock Wood Half Marathon this morning. Congratulations to all those who registered new personal bests. Additionally, congratulations to the following:
Geraldine Schaer on winning the bronze medal in her age category in the Kent Championships. Roger Vilardell on setting a new Senior club record of 1:13:56, beating the previous record of 1:15:35 held by Simon Fox. Stephen Pond on setting a new M40 club record of 1:21:55, beating the previous record of 1:22:18 held by Gavin Mackay. These performances have been added to the Club Records page. The full results from Paddock Wood HM can be found by clicking here. ASSEMBLY LEAGUE
April sees the start of the 2017 Assembly League. This is a series of 6 races which take place through the Spring and Summer months on Thursday evenings. The first race takes place on Thursday 6 April @ 7:15pm, and is at Beckenham Cricket Club, the home of Beckenham Runners. This is a 5K single lap street course. Although these races can be competitive, they are by no means exclusive to the faster runners. It would be great if we could repeat the large turnout of PWRs we saw at last September’s event, not forgetting to opportunity for a chat over a drink afterwards in the clubhouse. There is no need to register in advance. Simply arrive around 30 minutes before the scheduled start time and report to the PWR representative who will have the register and race numbers. This is usually one of the club's captains but may be another PWR representative. Further information can be found on the Assembly League section of the PWR website, or from either of the Club Captains – Siggy Robson and Jonathan Bottomer. Additionally, there is a link to the Assembly League’s Facebook event on the Assembly League page. MEMBERS' 10K – SUNDAY 14 MAY The Members’ 10K for 2017 will take place on Sunday 14 May. Registration takes place from 9:30am, with the race starting from 10:00am. This is an opportunity to take part in a free 10k around our local area with other members of the club. There are no medals but there is a staggered start so all groups are catered for. You register in your own group and run with others of a similar pace. We hope there will be some of you who will volunteer to pace certain times too. There will be a prize for the winner of each group, announced and given out at the Summer Awards Evening. As in previous years, help will be required, including setting up, marshal positions and registrations. If you would like to help out in any way, please add your name to the Volunteers tab on the Members’ 10K Google Document, link below. If you would like to run, please register on the same document but on the Runners tab instead. We are confident we will have lots of volunteers, usually from the injury bench, so we would like lots of you to take part, it is a really fun event. We are looking for cake bakers too, so you can expect tea, coffee and cake at the end! This is all free to members. Click here to go to the Google document. Please note you MUST be a fully paid up member to take part in this event - this will be checked on the day!!! Another good reason to go to http://www.pettswoodrunners.org/membership.html and renew asap. Further information on the day itself will follow in due course. For any queries please contact Hels or Karen. Please see the following information which I have received from KCAA:
Please be aware that the Paddock Wood Half marathon this Sunday is the 2017 Kent Road Running Long Course Championships for Individual Veteran Categories F35-44, F45-54, F55-64, F65+, M40-49, M50-59, M60-69, M70+. It is also the Kent Team Championships for each of Male and Female teams, which are open age (within the race organisers race entry age criteria). Entries into the race itself will not be available on the day, but those runners who have already entered the race and wish to participate in the INDIVIDUAL Kent Champs event also, MUST register at the Kent Champs desk located at the start / finish area, before the race and collect their identifier. Entries into the team championships will be automatic for all Kent Club runners. The KCAA advise on this occasion that anyone capable of a performance as per the below should be competitive in their age group event: M40-49 = Sub 1.22 M50-59 = Sub 1.27 M60-65 = Sub 1.45 M70+ (any time – only 5 Kent Club runners have entered the race) F35-44 = Sub 1.35 F45-54 = Sub 1.40 F55-64 = Sub 2.05 F65+ (any time – only 3 Kent Club runners have entered the race) Please let me know if there are any queries. Thanks, John [email protected] Congratulations to Geraldine Schaer on setting a new F45 club record while representing Kent at last weekend’s Essex 20, part of the Inter Counties Road Race Championships in a time of 2:25:45, beating her own record of 2:32:56 set at Lydd in March last year.
Her performance has been added to the Club Records page. I am pleased to inform of two new club records:
Steve Burnett set a new M60 club record at last weekend’s Greenwich 10K in a time of 45:46, beating his own record of 46:35 set at Richmond in October last year. Emma Crawford set a new F35 club record at today’s Brighton Half Marathon in a time of 1:26:29, beating her own record of 1:27:49 set at Tunbridge Wells in February 2016. Both performances have been added to the Club Records page. Congratulations to both of you. *** THIS PLACE IS NOW TAKEN ***
You may recall we gained a small number of club places for the 2017 Brighton Marathon. Unfortunately, one of the places has become available due to injury. Brighton Marathon has informed me we can reallocate this place as the registration has not been fully completed. Registration must be fully completed by Monday 20 February 2017. If you would like the opportunity to take part, please reply to this e-mail – first response gets the place. Please be aware that the cost of entry is £69.50 and is not paid by the club. Only responses by e-mail will be accepted. Best wishes, John [email protected] |
